Another fresh new year is here . . .

Gisela's Guildwood Garden 2007

“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace,
to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”

Happy New Year to the Scarborough Garden and Horticultural Society!

pictures from the annual Scarborough Garden and Horticultural Society plant sale..
I am a member of the Scarborough Garden and Horticultural Society.

Our January 2008 edition of Garden Cuttings newsletter of our society
featured the following article:

Websites Worth Viewing

... to draw our attention to Plant World – a helpful website which includes an easy way to look up plants of interests in the form of fact sheets.
Even though the company is a little out of the way, members have bought from them and have found their material to be excellent.
Plus, they honour our SGHS membership card with a discount!

Gisela Bach truly enjoys living in Guildwood so much so that she created the following two blogs to tell the rest of the world, including all of you, about our beautiful Scarborough.

The gardens that make us happiest flourish
because we have taken the time to make sure
they feed our souls and fill a special place in our lives.
Sometimes you have to think about what you really want from your garden ...
once the beds are laid out and the rose bushes planted. -

Merry Christmas - Frohe Weihnachten

May the spirit of Christmas bring you peace,
The gladness of Christmas give you hope,
The warmth of Christmas grant you love.

just arrived in time..Timber Press.. Pocket Guides

The front yard of our house is about 32' wide and 80' long.
The location: north and lots of shade.
I am considering to change the grassy area with ground covers, ornamental grasses, Hosta plants and Clematis.
The challenge is to find a good layout and the right plants for this location.
I hope that the new Timber Press pocket guides will help me to realise my dream garden.
------------------------------------------
Posted by Picasa

Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) in front of our window

Northern cardinals have a preference for the edges of woods, hedgerows, and vegetation around houses. This may be partially responsible for the increase in their population since the early 1800's. Cardinals also benefit from the large numbers of humans who feed them and other seed-eating birds with backyard bird feeders. Cardinals prefer to build their nests in dense thickets.

digging out from a winter storm..

The garden, winter decorations and trees are covered with snow look beautiful.

Southern Ontario is cleaning up following a major winter storm that's left sidewalks and streets a snowy, slippery mess.
It's not even officially winter yet, but the weekend storm dumped more than 30 of snow on Guildwood and Toronto.
